Self Love Font for Modern Web Design

I was working on a new portfolio site for a creative agency when I needed a fresh, bold display font to elevate the hero section. The client wanted something that felt modern and confident—something that would immediately catch attention without overwhelming the design. That’s when I stumbled upon Self Love, a textured brush display font with a cool, contemporary edge.

The first thing I noticed about Self Love was how it balanced style with readability. It had a hand-drawn texture that gave it character, but it wasn’t too wild or hard to read. It fit perfectly over a full-screen image banner in the hero section, where the headline needed to stand out while still feeling approachable.

I tested it across different screen sizes, from desktops to mobile devices. On larger screens, the font looked great as a large headline with enough spacing between letters to avoid clutter. On mobile, I adjusted the font size slightly and made sure the text didn’t get cut off or feel cramped. It handled responsive layouts well, which is crucial for any web project aiming to deliver a polished brand experience.

Self Love worked especially well in areas where visual hierarchy matters. For example, using it for section headings on the portfolio page helped guide the user’s eye through the content naturally. It also added a nice touch to call-to-action buttons, though I kept those in a simpler sans serif font to maintain contrast and ensure they were easy to tap on smaller screens.

One of the things I appreciated most about this font was its versatility. It could be used for more than just headlines. I experimented with using it in decorative accents, like in a sidebar feature list or as a title for a blog post header. In these cases, I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body copy to keep the design from feeling too busy.

When choosing a display font, it's important to consider how it affects the overall brand perception. Self Love has a friendly yet professional vibe, which made it a good match for the creative agency’s brand identity. It conveyed confidence without being too formal, which aligned well with their target audience of young, innovative designers and developers.

I also checked the font’s technical aspects before finalizing it. It came with multiple styles and weights, which gave me flexibility in different parts of the site. The webfont format loaded quickly, which is essential for maintaining fast page speeds. Plus, the licensing allowed for commercial use, making it suitable for client projects and online stores.

For the portfolio homepage, I used Self Love as the main font for the hero title and then paired it with a simple sans serif font for the rest of the content. This combination created a clear distinction between primary and secondary text, improving scanning behavior and making the layout more user-friendly.

In another section of the site, I applied Self Love to a product landing page. Here, it worked well as the headline for a featured service. The texture of the font added a subtle layer of interest without distracting from the message. I made sure to keep the background light enough so the text remained legible and didn’t clash with the imagery behind it.

When it comes to typography, pairing fonts effectively can make or break a design. Self Love’s modern look complemented a minimalist sans serif font beautifully. It added just the right amount of personality to the design without compromising clarity or usability.

I also considered how the font performed in dark mode sections of the site. Even on darker backgrounds, the contrast remained strong enough to maintain readability. This adaptability made it a solid choice for a multi-theme website that needs to function well in various lighting conditions.

Overall, Self Love proved to be a reliable and stylish option for a range of digital projects. Whether it was used for a creative portfolio, an online store, or a coaching website, it brought a unique flair to the design while keeping the focus on the user experience. Its modern appeal, readability, and flexibility made it a standout choice in my latest web design project.
